Boschendal was the first Cape wine farm to host a public picnic on its sprawling lawns. The Pavillion, from where performers entertain picnic-goers, adds to the festivity. Boschendal has become equally famous for its fantastic Coronation Chicken, which has been served with picnics over the years. Kathy van Niekerk, Boschendal Brand Ambassador, shares the origins of this popular picnic dish: Coronation Chicken was first served at the coronation banquet of Queen Elizabeth in 1953, which is why it was made famous. According to Kathy the Pavillion Chenin Blanc’s hint of residual sweetness makes it the ideal wine to enjoy with the mildly spicy chicken. This Chenin Blanc has lots of ripe tropical fruit on the nose, peaches and pears on the palate, with hints of honey on the long finish.
