The festive season is a time that most of us look forward to, but for MCC enthusiasts the season is even more special as it signals the arrival of the Franschhoek Cap Classique & Champagne Festival.
This year, the event highlighted the best of bubbly and cuisine, all while guests socialised and gained insight from local and international producers. We showcased an array of our popular award-winning MCCs, including the Jean le Long, Brut NV, Brut Rosé NV, Grande Cuvée Brut and Demi-Sec.
Here are a few fascinating facts about these MCCs, plus the cuisines to pair them with:
Jean Le Long
Taking 15 years to make and mature, our prestige Jean le Long has long been associated with premium elegance and refinement. The alluring pale gold tint, with an embellishment of tiny bubbles, capture the imagination immediately. This is followed by tempting lemon cream, pink grapefruit and toasty brioche aromas.
Reserved for the sophisticated palate, the rare vintage pairs with rich seafood such as seared scallops, grilled lobster and seafood risotto.
A delicate blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the Brut NV owes much of its complexity to spending a minimum of 12 months on the lees. A favourite at the MCC Festival, it harmonises seamlessly with strawberries, shellfish and sushi – a lighter spin on a traditional festive meal.
Brut Rose NV
Considered by many as the official MCC of the summer, Boschendal Brut Rosé sparkles with the ideal blend of Pinotage, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The wine has unrivalled versatility and matches well with summer salads and chicken scaloppini.
The MCC’s versatility stems from its harvest, which is done early at lower sugar levels to achieve the stimulating airiness – perfect for al fresco events this summer.
Grande Cuvée Brut
This fine blend is ideally enjoyed chilled at any time of a summer’s day. The Grand Cuvée Brut perfectly complements smoked salmon. It also pairs well with a cream cheese and chive breakfast.
Hints of fresh green apple and citrus supported by discreet almond biscotti and brioche leave the palate gratified. Extended lees contact gives a full and creamy mouthfeel with graceful minerality, good balance and a seamless finish.
A flourish of delicate bubbles, with decadent crème brulée and almond biscotti notes, balanced with alluring lemon and orange to finish, with vibrant freshness and length. That’s the beauty of the Demi-Sec, which pairs wonderfully with sticky honey nougat and pecan pie with good vanilla ice cream.
