Shaking up the Johannesburg food scene, Soweto-born Chef Wandile Mabaso is the owner and Head Chef of Les Créatifs Restaurant. Epitomizing a world-class, creative dining experience that’s focused on the arts, the restaurant’s emphasis on excellence matches Boschendal’s own. Wine, art, and food are a match made in heaven, and so Boschendal and Chef Wandile will be partnering to present an unforgettable, exclusive dinner on 24 September at Les Créatifs in Bryanston.
The evening starts at 7 pm and will feature an incredible menu of Chef Wandile’s Franco-African cuisine, complemented by Boschendal’s premium, award-winning Cap Classique wines. With classical French training in some of the world’s most iconic restaurants, Chef Wandile’s food reflects his South African heritage and French flair.
The young South African has worked alongside legends like Chef Alain Ducasse, whose restaurant holds two Michelin stars, and Olivier Reginensi. His story is one of tenacity and talent.
After finishing his studies, he worked on cruise ships for a while, before moving to New York. Seeking a Michelin-level education, he knocked on the doors of all the top restaurants until one – Gascogne – gave him a chance. He worked his way up and moved to Michelin-star big names like La Bernadin and Daniel. He then did a stint at Mihoko’s French-Japanese fusion restaurant 21 grams, before joining Maison Kayser under famed French chef Olivier Reginensi. Later, he moved to Le Meurice under Alain Ducasse (holder of 21 Michelin stars), before coming back to SA and opening Les Créatifs.
Les Créatifs has received much media attention. The intimate 40-seater space was designed by interior designer Donald Nxumalo, with custom ceramic plates created in collaboration with renowned artist Andile Ndyalvane. It’s a celebration of art in every sense. The food combines aspects of Chef Wandile’s journey, with French, Italian, Korean, Japanese and Mexican influences and the best of South African ingredients.
On the night, guests can look forward to a menu unlike anything they’ve ever experienced before, accompanied by our multi-award-winning Cap Classiques, including our prestigious Jean Le Long, which recently scored 95 points (the equivalent of a Gold Medal) in Tim Atkins’ 2019 Special Report and was awarded as the overall winner of the Amorim Cap Classique Challenge.
